Indiana Police Records

By Ben Kingsley

Police records are issued by different law enforcing agencies of the state such as the Police department, sheriff's office and even the highway patrol when an individual commits and offense. Indiana Police Reports Public Record is one of the documents that people use when they feel that their security and safety are at risk.

Residents of Indiana refer to this document when they conduct a background check. Employers are among the people who regularly access this type of document. They use it to check on their people to make sure they have qualified and trustworthy individuals working for them. This helps the company avoid problems and can eventually help them grow and expand. Even ordinary residents of Indiana would request for such documents to check on people they see everyday such as their neighbors, tutors, babysitters, friends and relatives. This makes them feel at ease and safe in where they live. The document is also used by authorities. It can help them find clues about a certain criminal case.

Police records, as they are named, contain information that is related to the crimes and offenses that an individual has committed. The document would not be complete without the real name of the person involved as well as his/her birth details and recent address. If there were charges filed against the individual, one would be able to find it on the document along with the sentences that the person has received. If the individual was not convicted of any crime or offense, a police report is still generated for future use and reference.

All of the police records of Indiana are kept at the office of the Public Safety Department. One needs to go there to file the request to obtain such document. One has to fill out the request form with the basic information of the file that is being requested. It is also important for the requesting individual to provide their contact details for documentation reasons. The provided information will be used as reference since the document can only be released if the one who requested it is the person on the file or their immediate family. One can only request for such document if the case has been closed, otherwise, the document remains private and confidential.

The Public Safety office also accepts mailed-in request. If one prefers to send the request by mail, one should enclose all the requirements and the documents that are needed to avoid problems and issues in the request. It can take a while before the document can be delivered to the one who requested the document. Thus, this is not the fastest way to obtain a copy of the said document.

Requesting for the police record through the Internet is actually the fastest method there is. Most residents of Indiana would now choose to request it online because it is convenient and fast. One can even get a free public police records from testing the service of some websites. However, many still pay for the search just to get complete and accurate results.
